# BUZZ-Indian stock benchmarks drop as Middle East conflict keeps investors on edge

Indian equity benchmarks Nifty 50 (.NSEI) and BSE Sensex (.BSESN) down 1% and 1.2%, respectively

The U.S. and Israel launched what some described as the war’s heaviest strikes on Iran, even as U.S. President Donald Trump said on Monday the conflict could be “over soon”

Nine of the 16 major sectors post losses; broader smallcaps (.NIFSMCP100) climb 0.5%, while midcaps (.NIFMDCP100) drop 0.4%

Heavyweights HDFC Bank (HDBK.NS) drops 2%, ICICI Bank (ICBK.NS) down 1.3%; Reliance Industries (RELI.NS) down 0.8%

Meanwhile, Brent crude futures (LCOc1) swung between gains and losses to trade at $87.68 per barrel

Among individual stocks, budget carrier IndiGo (INGL.NS) gains as much as 3% after analysts expect a smooth transition following CEO Pieter Elbers’ resignation

LNG stocks gain as the government redirects supplies following disruption in the Strait of Hormuz
