# Tesla plans to start mass production of Optimus 3 this summer, accelerating the large-scale deployment of humanoid robots

PingWest reported on March 13 that Tesla CEO Elon Musk revealed during an interview at the Abundance Summit that the company will start production of the third-generation humanoid robot, Optimus 3, this summer. He stated that this model "far exceeds the current global level" and emphasized that no competing products have demonstrated capabilities close to it.

Musk indicated that initial production will be extremely limited, following a typical S-curve manufacturing ramp-up, with high production expected by the summer of 2027. He also disclosed that the design for Optimus 4 will be completed next year, with plans to release a new generation of robots annually in the future.

The first Optimus production line is located at the Fremont factory in California, aiming for an annual production capacity of 1 million units; larger-scale manufacturing will shift to Gigafactory Texas in Texas, with a long-term planned annual capacity of 10 million units. Musk previously pointed out that Optimus 4 will be produced at the Texas factory with significantly higher output.

This move marks Tesla's transition from prototype validation to industrial implementation. Although the initial pace is cautious, its long-term capacity layout reflects strategic confidence in humanoid robots becoming a core business.
