Malaysian company Mawar Setia has acquired a majority stake in U Mobile from Singapore Technologies Telemedia (STT), completing the takeover. U Mobile stated in its announcement that Mawar Setia, controlled by Malaysian businessman Vincent Tan and Tunku Dato' Aminah, has increased its shareholding in U Mobile to over 50% through a share acquisition agreement; after the transaction, Singapore Technologies Telemedia's shareholding will be reduced to 20%. On March 13, Aminah officially succeeded Vincent Tan as the chairman of U Mobile. Mawar Setia is a locally invested holding company in Malaysia. Based on user connection statistics, U Mobile is the third-largest mobile communication operator in Malaysia.
