# Elon Musk accelerates the development of Tesla's next-generation AI chip AI6, which may soon reach a key milestone

Tesla seems to be accelerating the pace of its artificial intelligence roadmap. Elon Musk stated that the company's next-generation AI6 chip could complete tape-out as early as December this year.

This timeline is earlier than many expected and suggests Tesla's aggressive stance on in-house chip development. Musk pointed out that artificial intelligence itself may help speed up the design process, considering these chips are intended to power everything from autonomous driving systems to Optimus robots, which is an interesting twist. The AI6 chip will be the successor to the existing AI5 chip, marking another upgrade in performance and efficiency.

In terms of manufacturing, Samsung is expected to produce the chips using its advanced 2-nanometer process under a $16.5 billion agreement. However, even if Tesla achieves its tape-out goal in December, actual production is not expected to begin until the second half of 2027, so widespread application of these chips will still take time
