The total transaction volume of credit cards in Q4 was 393.96 million transactions, up 3% quarter-on-quarter and 16.1% year-on-year, with a total transaction amount of HKD 311.6 billion, an increase of 9.1% quarter-on-quarter and 14.8% year-on-year. Among the total transaction amount of credit card transactions in that quarter, HKD 201.6 billion (64.7%) was for consumption in Hong Kong, HKD 100.3 billion (32.2%) was for overseas consumption, and HKD 9.6 billion (3.1%) was for cash loans. ## Total Transaction Volume of Retail Sales Debit Cards Increased by 2.7% Quarter-on-Quarter In terms of debit cards, the total transaction volume involving retail sales and bill payments in Q4 increased by 2.7% quarter-on-quarter to 53.7 million transactions, with the total amount increasing by 11% quarter-on-quarter to HKD 69.6 billion. Compared to the previous year, the total transaction volume of debit cards in that quarter decreased by 3.2%, and the total amount decreased by 4.6%. ## Total Number of Stored Value Payment Tool Accounts Increased by 3.6% Additionally, the Monetary Authority announced that by the end of Q4 last year, the total number of active stored value payment tool accounts was 86.4 million, an increase of 3.6% quarter-on-quarter. The total transaction volume of stored value payment tools in Q4 was approximately 2.3 billion transactions, up 6.6% quarter-on-quarter; the total transaction amount was HKD 272.4 billion, up 1.3%. Among the total transaction amount, HKD 47.5 billion was for point-of-sale consumption payments, HKD 34.3 billion was for online consumption payments, HKD 16.5 billion was for person-to-person transfers, HKD 60.6 billion was for withdrawals, and HKD 113.5 billion was for value-added services. Compared to the previous year, the total number of active stored value payment tool accounts at the end of Q4 increased by 8.3%.
