On Wednesday, the Government confirmed the decision to block Ming Yang’s turbines from use in Britain, which had been subject to scrutiny over potential spying concerns. This effectively kills Ming Yang’s plans to build the UK’s largest turbine factory at Ardesier near Inverness, which was expected to deliver 1,500 jobs. “After careful consideration, the Government’s view is that we cannot support the use of \[these turbines\] in UK offshore wind projects,” said a spokesman. “We will always act to protect our national security, and we are committed to strengthening and prioritising resilient and sustainable offshore wind supply chains.” However, in an effort to ease tensions with Beijing, officials sought to stress that Chinese investment was still welcome in the UK. “We welcome investment from China where it’s in our national interest – as demonstrated by significant inward investment during the Prime Minister’s recent visit to Beijing,” the spokesman added. “We will continue to take a consistent, long-term and strategic approach to our relationship with China – cooperating where we can, whilst protecting our security and resilience.” The Government’s move to reject Ming Yang’s turbines has torpedoed the company’s planned expansion into Britain. Based in Zhongshan, the green energy giant unveiled plans in October to build a factory in Scotland to manufacture turbine blades for the UK and Europe. However, Ming Yang’s plan became a lightning rod for criticism, including from the Trump administration. A Ming Yang spokesman said: “We are disappointed by the UK Government’s decision not to allow Ming Yang’s world-leading technology to be used. “The decision misses a significant opportunity to increase competition in the capacity-constrained wind turbine market. “We will continue to engage constructively with the UK Government, including on the important topic of national security, and remain committed to supporting the UK’s mission to become a clean energy superpower.” ### Related Stocks - [601615.CN](https://longbridge.com/en/quote/601615.CN.md) ## Related News & Research - [China opposed to UK's rejection of Ming Yang wind turbine factory plan](https://longbridge.com/en/news/282623812.md) - [Labour Wes Streeting is likely to abandon bid for PM and support Andy Burnham](https://longbridge.com/en/news/287106674.md) - [UK parliamentary election, key to possible Burnham leadership bid, set for June 18](https://longbridge.com/en/news/287089372.md) - [Britain has already hit its taxable limit – there is no more revenue to be squeezed](https://longbridge.com/en/news/286953411.md) - [Leading challenger to UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer quits government](https://longbridge.com/en/news/286432044.md)
