# Wal-Mart de Mexico to Raise 2026 Capital Expenditures by 10%

MEXICO CITY--Retailer Wal-Mart de Mexico plans capital expenditures of 43 billion Mexican pesos ($2.4 billion) in 2026 for Mexico and Central America, or 10% more than the previous year, the company said Wednesday.

Walmex, as the unit of Arkansas-based Walmart is known, said 26% of the investment will be for new stores as part of the plan to open 1,500 new stores between 2025 and 2029. New stores are expected to contribute between 1.5% and 1.7% to total sales growth in 2026, with the Bodega Aurrera format remaining the principal growth engine.

Remodeling and maintenance at existing stores will account for 42% of the investment, while 24% is for expansion and modernization of the supply chain, and the remaining 8% for technology projects.

At the end of 2025, Walmex had 3,316 stores in Mexico and 949 in Central America.
