(Image credit: SAIC-GM-Wuling) SAIC-GM-Wuling has launched its fifth-generation Hongguang Mini EV, marking the company's latest move to defend its dominance in China's fiercely competitive entry-level electric vehicle (EV) market. Wuling officially rolled out the model at an event on Friday, with prices ranging from 42,800 yuan ($6,190) to 51,800 yuan after trade-in subsidies. As the world's best-selling micro EV, the revamped model features comprehensive upgrades to its exterior, interior, and cabin. The fifth-generation Hongguang Mini EV retains its four-door, four-seat layout. The vehicle measures 3,268 mm in length, 1,520 mm in width, and 1,575 mm in height, with the wheelbase remaining at 2,190 mm. The car is powered by a 30-kW electric motor, supporting a top speed of 100 kilometers per hour. It is equipped with a lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery pack, offering two CLTC range options of 205 km and 301 km. Using DC fast charging, the battery can be charged from 30% to 80% in 35 minutes. Inside, the new car is upgraded with a 10.1-inch central control screen, which will support smartphone connectivity options including CarPlay, HiCar, and CarLink in the future. The Hongguang Mini EV family has been a crucial engine driving the adoption of EVs in China's grassroots market, with the series selling a total of 435,598 units throughout 2025. Since its initial launch in July 2020, cumulative sales have surpassed 1.85 million units.
