# Meta's Instagram is testing a premium subscription service that includes the "invisible story viewing" feature

According to Zhitong Finance APP, Instagram, a subsidiary of Meta (META.US), is testing a new premium subscription service that will grant paying users access to exclusive features. This is one of the company's initiatives to build a stable source of income beyond its core advertising business.

The benefits exclusive to subscribers include several features related to Instagram's "Stories," such as the ability to view stories posted by others without their knowledge. Paying users can also create an unlimited number of audience lists and extend the duration of their stories by 24 hours. As one of the app's most popular features, regular stories currently disappear automatically after 24 hours.

"We hope to understand which features in the premium offering are most valuable to users through these tests," an Instagram spokesperson confirmed on Monday, noting that the company is testing this premium subscription tier in a few countries. It is reported that Instagram is currently launching this subscription service in Mexico, Japan, and the Philippines, charging only a few dollars per month.

Meta Platforms Inc., Instagram's parent company, has experimented with various subscription products over the years and has launched a subscription model that allows users to tip content creators they follow. Other companies that rely on advertising revenue, including Snap Inc. and Elon Musk's X platform, are also actively promoting subscription services. Subscription businesses are seen as a complement to advertising and can provide a more predictable source of income.

In February, Meta confirmed that the company is also considering launching premium subscription services for Facebook and WhatsApp
