# NUH Innovation Hub set to test and scale AI, advance industry partnerships

**The Kent Ridge Office of Innovation drives NUH’s innovation efforts.**

The National University Hospital (NUH) has launched an Innovation Hub to advance collaboration with industry and academic partners and to test and scale artificial intelligence (AI) and digital healthcare solutions in clinical and operational settings.

The hub is driven by the Kent Ridge Office of Innovation, established in April 2024, and forms part of NUH’s transformation within the National University Health System.

It provides a live environment to validate technologies developed with startups, MedTech companies, and research partners, according to a press release.

NUH has signed memoranda of understanding with the National University of Singapore College of Design and Engineering and Elsevier (Singapore) to support joint capability development and study AI-enabled clinical tools.

This includes the use of AI-based search engines for medical content and their role in supporting evidence-based practice.

The hub also houses the Singapore–Shanghai Medical Innovation Centre Singapore office, a joint initiative with Ruijin Hospital, Shanghai Jiao Tong University School of Medicine, focusing on translational research in CAR T-cell therapy and 3D printing in orthopaedics.

NUH is working with the Infocomm Media Development Authority Open Innovation Platform to match startups with clinical and operational challenges, including digital measurement for skin prick testing, fire preparedness training, and digital platforms for clinical education.

It is also collaborating with the Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine Digital Advanced Technology Accelerator on a startup hackathon for digital health solutions.

The hospital has introduced MedBot, a virtual pharmacy assistant that provides medication information before prescription collection.

It is used at NUH outpatient and satellite pharmacies, saves 28 man-hours a month, and recorded about 96% of users feeling comfortable proceeding with their medications after receiving guidance.

NUH has also deployed the ED Summarizer in its Emergency Department, which consolidates diagnoses, treatments, investigations, and clinical notes into structured reports within the electronic medical record system, reducing clinician documentation time by at least 50%.

The hub also supports staff training in AI and innovation programmes within NUH.
