# European Equities Traded in the US as American Depositary Receipts Rising Sharply in Wednesday Trading

11:03 AM EDT, 04/01/2026 (MT Newswires) -- European equities traded in the US as American depositary receipts were sharply higher late Wednesday morning, rising 1.17% to 1,758.40 on the S&P Europe Select ADR Index.

From continental Europe, the gainers were led by biopharmaceutical companies Cellectis ( CLLS ) and DBV Technologies ( DBVT ) , which advanced 5.1% and 3.1%, respectively. They were followed by lenders ING Groep ( ING ) and Banco Santander (SAN), which increased 2.8% and 2.1%, respectively.

The decliners from continental Europe were led by petroleum refiner Equinor ( EQNR ) and oil and gas company Eni (E), which lost 5.1% and 2.9%, respectively. They were followed by consumer goods company Unilever ( UL ) and pharmaceutical company Sanofi ( SNY ) , which dropped 2.3% and 0.4%, respectively.

The gainers from the UK were led by biopharmaceutical companies Bicycle Therapeutics ( BCYC ) and Mereo BioPharma Group ( MREO ) , which rose 5.6% and 4%, respectively. They were followed by biopharmaceutical company NuCana ( NCNA ) and lender Lloyds Banking Group ( LYG ) , which were up 3.6% and 3.4%, respectively.

The decliners from the UK and Ireland were led by oil and gas company BP (BP) and tobacco company British American Tobacco ( BTI ) , which fell 1.8% and 1.7%, respectively. They were followed by oil and gas company Shell (SHEL) and alcoholic beverage company Diageo ( DEO ) , which were down 1.1% and 0.6%, respectively.
