# Deepening Commitment to AI Hardware! Meta Platforms' Superintelligence Division Forming Dedicated Hardware Team

According to Business Insider, **Meta Platforms' Superintelligence division is forming a dedicated hardware team and recruiting a senior engineer to lead it, a move representing Meta Platforms' deep expansion into the AI hardware device sector.**

Meta Platforms' Reality Labs division is known for smart glasses and virtual reality headsets. This new initiative is under the Meta Superintelligence Lab (MSL). This high-profile AI division, announced last year, **indicates that Meta Platforms is planning to launch other types of AI devices.**

According to media reports citing sources familiar with the matter, this plan has not been previously reported. Some Reality Labs engineers have already moved to MSL to prototype the AI division's software on Reality Labs' hardware, and the two departments are collaborating closely. **Meta Platforms is recruiting Rui Xu to serve as MSL's head of hardware. Rui Xu previously led the hardware business for AI agent startup Dreamer, whose founding team was acquired by Meta Platforms last month.**

According to The Information, before joining Dreamer, Rui Xu served as the COO of robotics startup K-Scale, which shut down last year. Nat Friedman, head of product and applied research at MSL, had invested in K-Scale through the AI Grant program he co-founded.

Currently, tech giants like OpenAI are racing to create a truly AI-centric personal device rather than just a replacement for smartphones.

> In February this year, Alexandr Wang, head of MSL, said in a podcast that Meta Platforms aims to push the boundaries of phones toward an era where everyone has a personalized AI agent—distributed across a "constellation" of devices around the user:
