description: "Kia's EV sales in the US for March 2026 showed mixed results, with the EV6 selling 883 units (down from 921 in March 2025) and the EV9 selling 1,247 units (up from 1,164). Overall, Q1 2026 was disappointing, with the EV6 at 2,023 sales (down from 3,738) and the EV9 at 2,740 (down from 3,756). Despite this, there is hope for improvement in Q2. Additionally, Kia plans to introduce the EV3 to the US market, potentially filling a gap left by competitors pulling back on smaller electric models."

# Kia EV Sales Holding Up Okay In 2026 In USA

Covering how different electric vehicles have been faring in the US market this year compared to last, we’ve seen some huge drops in performance, but I was also happy and surprised to see Hyundai’s EVs performing even better! How about sibling (or cousin?) Kia?

Well, Kia’s EV sales are a mixed bag.

In March, they didn’t see a massive dropoff, and they also didn’t see notable growth. In fact, they’re barely any different from March 2025. The EV6 had 883 sales in March 2026, down 38 from the 921 sales of March 2025. On the other hand, the EV9 had 1,247 sales in March 2026, up 83 from the 1,164 sales of March 2025.

Unfortunately, the numbers weren’t quite as steady across the first quarter as a whole as they were in March. Across the first three months of the year, the EV6 scored 2,023 sales, far fewer than the 3,738 sales of Q1 2025. Meanwhile, the EV9 landed 2,740 sales, down significantly from the 3,756 of Q1 2025.

So, overall, the first quarter really wasn’t great for Kia EVs. However … the quarter ended much better than it started — relative to 2025 at least. So, perhaps one can hope to see a good second quarter for Kia EVs?

We also have some interesting — or even odd — news from Kia this past week from the New York Auto Show. Quite surprisingly, the company seems like it’s going to sell the EV3 here. Lately, the trend among automakers has been to pull electric models off the market — heck, even Tesla is doing that with the Model S and Model X! And I think most of us didn’t expect Kia ever to bring the EV3 to the US market, since it’s “not big enough” for our supersized tastes. But perhaps the company sees that so many automakers have taken that approach to this vehicle segment that they’ve decided there’s a hole there that it can fill. Could the EV3 really make a splash in the US and help the company return to EV sales growth again here? One can hope!

For more on Hyundai and Kia plans in the US market, see Larry Evans’ latest reporting from the New York Auto Show. We’re also looking to discuss this in a coming CleanTechnica YouTube show.
