# Microvast and Iveco expand EV battery partnership

The next phase of the partnership will focus on developing further generations of the MV-I battery pack, aimed at increasing efficiency and performance for the European commercial vehicle market. It is positioned as part of broader efforts to electrify commercial vehicle fleets in Europe, covering applications from light commercial vehicles to buses and heavy-duty trucks.

The collaboration initially centred on the Iveco eDaily programme, with Microvast supplying battery systems based on VDA modules and 52 Ah cells. This platform remains in production and formed the basis for further joint development activities in Europe.

In 2023, the partners introduced the MV-I Gen 1 battery pack, assembled at the FPT ePowertrain facility in Turin and integrated into the Iveco Bus platform, as Microvast specified in its press release. The programme has since progressed to the MV-I Gen 2 battery generation, which is currently in production and deployed across the full Iveco Bus range as well as the Iveco S-eWay Rigid heavy-duty truck platform.

According to the companies, the Gen 2 battery system is designed to support fleet operators with improved performance, scalability and reliability.

“Through this partnership, Iveco Group and Microvast continue to reaffirm reliable, innovative, and sustainable energy solutions,” said Alessandro Bernardini, Head of Zero Emission Propulsion & Energy at Iveco Group. “Together, we are driving the transformation toward a zero-emission transportation future.”

Microvast highlighted the role of long-term industrial partnerships in scaling electrification technologies.

“Our collaboration with Iveco Group demonstrates the power of long-term partnerships in accelerating sustainable e-mobility and is a blueprint for how Microvast scales,” said Yang Wu, CEO of Microvast.
