# Intel Joins Musk's "Terafab," Collaborating to Build a 1 Terawatt AI Computing Power Empire

Intel announced its participation in Musk's "Terafab" project, with both parties collaborating to advance semiconductor manufacturing and high-performance chip research and development. This move opens a significant window for Intel's long-sought-after foundry business.

Intel announced the collaboration on X.com, Musk's social media platform, on Tuesday, revealing partnerships with SpaceX, Tesla, and Musk's artificial intelligence company, xAI.

**Intel stated that its capabilities in chip design, manufacturing, and packaging will support "Terafab" in achieving its production target of 1 terawatt of computing power annually, providing computational support for the future development of AI and robotics technologies.**

The aforementioned collaboration holds significant meaning for Intel. The chip giant has been continuously seeking external foundry clients for years without announcing any substantive agreements to date. **The collaboration with Musk's companies could become a key breakthrough for its wafer foundry business expansion.** Following the announcement, Intel's stock rose approximately 2.5% to $52.05.

## **Collaboration Details Yet to Be Clarified**

Despite Intel's high-profile entry, the announcement remains vague on specific details.

**Intel did not disclose its specific positioning and role division within the "Terafab" project, nor did the parties announce any financial terms or contract sizes. It was only mentioned that Intel would participate with its comprehensive capabilities in designing, manufacturing, and packaging semiconductors.**

In fact, this collaboration had been foreshadowed. At Tesla's annual shareholder meeting last month, Musk publicly stated that he might cooperate with Intel to build a semiconductor factory specifically serving his companies, but added that no agreement had been signed between the two parties at that time.

Intel's formal announcement of its participation marks a transition from public statements to substantive progress.

## **A Key Node in Intel's Foundry Strategy**

This collaboration holds particular strategic value for Intel's foundry business.

Intel has been aggressively pushing its wafer foundry transformation in recent years, actively seeking external clients to use its factories for chip production. However, this strategy has progressed slowly, and no publicly disclosed foundry contracts have materialized yet. Intel has previously stated that it expects potential customers to start making purchasing decisions by the end of this year or early next year.

Musk's companies span fields such as electric vehicles, aerospace, and artificial intelligence, all areas with high computing power demands, and the volume of custom chip requirements is not to be underestimated.

If the "Terafab" project proceeds as planned, Intel could leverage this opportunity to build its first benchmark case for its foundry business, breaking through the long-standing difficulty of lacking external clients and demonstrating to the market that its manufacturing capabilities are sufficient to meet the chip demands of top technology companies.
