In an exclusive interview published today by the French conservative media "Le Figaro," Birol stated that the current level of energy tightening is "far more severe than the combined crises of 1973, 1979, and 2022." Iran's actions equivalent to blocking the key Strait of Hormuz have led to soaring fuel prices; nevertheless, Birol believes there are "reasons to remain optimistic" because "the global energy system structure will undergo transformation." Birol said, "This will take years, and while it cannot resolve the current crisis, the geopolitical landscape of energy will be fundamentally changed."
