This pilot project is one of the demonstrations of HVO in China's internet data centers, with a potential reduction of approximately 90% in greenhouse gas emissions over the full lifecycle of HVO. EcoCeres plans to collaborate with more operators to promote this low-carbon fuel model, supporting decarbonization goals for data centers and other industries" datetime: "2026-04-09T10:12:31.000Z" locales: - [zh-CN](https://longbridge.com/zh-CN/news/282173757.md) - [en](https://longbridge.com/en/news/282173757.md) - [zh-HK](https://longbridge.com/zh-HK/news/282173757.md) --- # EcoCeres partners with GDS to establish a data center HVO pilot project to replace traditional diesel power supply China Gas Holdings Limited (003) incubated renewable fuel producer EcoCeres announced the completion of a pilot collaboration with the Chinese data center operator GDS (9698), successfully replacing traditional diesel with hydrotreated vegetable oil (HVO) as a low-carbon fuel for the data center backup power system. This pilot is one of the first demonstration projects for HVO in the Internet Data Center (IDC) sector in China, achieving a complete circular economy model from the recovery of waste cooking oil to low-carbon energy supply. ## Collaboration Turns Waste Oil into Fuel, Reducing Data Center Carbon Emissions by 90% In the pilot, EcoCeres provided HVO, produced from kitchen waste oil, to a data center operated by GDS in North China, to replace the fuel source for traditional diesel generators. HVO is produced from waste materials, and its full lifecycle greenhouse gas emissions can be reduced by up to approximately 90% compared to conventional fossil diesel. EcoCeres stated that this collaboration upgrades the original waste cooking oil to low-carbon fuel, providing clean power for the rapidly growing digital infrastructure. EcoCeres CEO Matti Lievonen stated that the collaboration with GDS demonstrates that HVO can assist critical facilities in achieving carbon reduction goals without compromising reliability, supporting low-carbon computing. He believes that the pilot is an important first step for waste-based HVO to expand its application in China's rapidly growing IDC industry. ## Model May Be Replicated in Asia, Collaborating with More Operators EcoCeres pointed out that this collaboration continues its strategy of promoting renewable fuels in hard-to-abate sectors, including HVO and sustainable aviation fuel (SAF), providing low-carbon solutions for industries such as data centers, aviation, logistics, and heavy transportation. HVO can directly replace petrochemical diesel, effectively reducing the scope 1 carbon emissions of data centers. Looking ahead, EcoCeres believes that this model has broad promotion potential in China and Asia, and will collaborate with more leading IDC operators to expand long-term supply, deepen carbon reduction collaboration, and jointly promote the sustainable development of a low-carbon digital ecosystem ### Related Stocks - [09698.HK](https://longbridge.com/en/quote/09698.HK.md) - [DTCR.US](https://longbridge.com/en/quote/DTCR.US.md) - [GDS.US](https://longbridge.com/en/quote/GDS.US.md) ## Related News & Research - [AEP raises capital plan to $78 billion as data center power demand skyrocketsÂ](https://longbridge.com/en/news/285230106.md) - [DigitalOcean Q1 revenue rises 22%, beats estimates; lifts outlook](https://longbridge.com/en/news/285197700.md) - [The Uranium Shortage: 78 Gigawatts Under Construction and Not Enough Fuel | CCJ Stock News](https://longbridge.com/en/news/284579129.md) - [Front Month Nymex ULSD Fell 0.60% This Month to Settle at $4.1384 — Data Talk](https://longbridge.com/en/news/284822631.md) - [The COVID Playbook Returns: Energy Rationing & The Politics Of Crisis Control](https://longbridge.com/en/news/285130494.md)
