# Abbott Baby Formula Case Jury Awards $70 Million in Damages

A jury in an Illinois state court found Abbott Laboratories legally responsible. The jury ordered the company to pay $70 million. The jury awarded the mothers $53 million in compensatory damages and $17 million in punitive damages.

The allegations claim the company promoted its cow's milk-based formula to hospital intensive care units (ICUs), despite knowing that premature infants who consumed it could develop necrotizing enterocolitis (NEC).
