description: "Hyundai is recalling nearly 36,000 IONIQ 6 vehicles in the U.S. due to a potential issue with front seat belt anchors that may not be securely attached. This recall affects 2023–2025 IONIQ 6 models and nearly 300,000 vehicles overall. The problem is linked to a damaged snap-on component that could lead to inadequate restraint during a collision. Hyundai has reported six incidents but no injuries. Repairs will be free, and a redesigned anchor has been implemented in production since March 2026."

# Hyundai Recalls Nearly 36,000 IONIQ 6 Over Seat Belt Anchor Concern

Owners of the Hyundai IONIQ 6 are among nearly 300,000 drivers impacted by a new recall in the United States, after a potential issue with seat belt anchors was identified.

Transport Canada has not yet issued a similar recall.

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), the recall covers 2023–2025 IONIQ 6 models, along with several other vehicles across Hyundai’s lineup. The issue centres on the front seat belt anchors, which may not be securely attached to the seat frame due to a damaged snap-on component.

If the anchor were to detach during a collision, the seat belt may not properly restrain occupants.

The root cause appears to be linked to the snap-on lower anchor design. Investigations found that the component can be damaged if it is improperly removed or reinstalled during servicing or repairs. In some cases, this could lead to the anchor not being sufficiently secured to the seat structure.

Despite the potential risk, Hyundai has reported only a small number of related incidents—six in total in the U.S.—with no confirmed crashes, injuries, or fatalities tied to the defect. Still, the automaker has opted to move forward with a full recall out of an abundance of caution.

To fix the issue, dealers will inspect the seat belt anchor assembly and either reinforce it with an additional insert or replace the seat belt system entirely if needed. All repairs will be carried out free of charge.

Hyundai says it has already implemented a redesigned version of the anchor in production as of March 2026, which should prevent the issue in newer vehicles.

While the IONIQ 6 is the only fully electric vehicle in the recall, it represents a notable portion of the affected units, with nearly 36,000 units included. The recall also extends to the Genesis G90 (2023–2026), as well as the 2024–2026 Hyundai Santa Fe and Santa Fe Hybrid models, which together account for the majority of the nearly 294,000 vehicles impacted.
