The electric vehicle space has been swelling with new entries from legacy carmakers and from overseas competitors for some time now. But the competition seen lately is different. It is pursuing Tesla on the back of Tesla's failings in Full Self-Driving (Supervised). Competitors are letting results do the talking, and that will be very hard for Tesla to fight. Investors remain optimistic, and gave Tesla shares a fractional boost in Friday's trading. ### Easter Sale - 70% Off TipRanks New trading tool for TSLA bears Tesla has been working to achieve the highest level of autonomy in driving—known as Level 4 or Level 5, depending—for some time now. And it has also set out a lot of deadlines for reaching that goal, most of which passed by with minimal fanfare. But companies like Rivian (RIVN) and Lucid Motors (LCID) are a lot closer This has left Tesla in a terrible position: it has reams of promises on its side, but its actual delivery has been clearly lacking. Several of its cars simply do not have the hardware necessary to run fully autonomous driving; only Hardware 4 vehicles can do that. Hardware 3 vehicles are pretty much out of the picture without an upgrade. ## **The Accidents Don't Help Matters** Meanwhile, out in Boca Raton, Florida, a Cybertruck found itself in a high-profile accident as it hit a woman on a bicycle, and then drove away. Reports suggest the Cybertruck was heading east in the westbound lanes, which suggests a problem in progress one way or the other. Perhaps worse still, reports also suggest that the truck was in "autopilot" mode at the time. The driver then reportedly continued north into a shopping plaza, and did not stop to check on the bicyclist. One witness got the Cybertruck's license plate number, and police followed up from there. The driver, Quintana Menduet, reportedly noted that he saw the bicyclist get to her feet, and thus assumed that no injury had been done. This was still enough to get him charged with leaving the scene of a crash involving injury, a felony in Florida. ## **Is Tesla a Buy, Hold or Sell?** Turning to Wall Street, analysts have a Hold consensus rating on TSLA stock based on 13 Buys, 11 Holds, and eight Sells assigned in the past three months, as indicated by the graphic below.
