# Microsoft Raises Surface Prices as AI Costs Rise

Microsoft Corporation (MSFT, Financials) is hiking the prices of all of its Surface products since the costs of memory and other parts are going up because of the rise of artificial intelligence.

The company noted that the modifications are necessary since the prices of important elements, especially memory, are going up. Because of this, the price of entry-level Surface devices has gone up, and there are no longer any Surface devices that cost less than $1,000. Some models have gone up a lot, like the 12-inch Surface Pro, which now costs more than it did when it first came out, and premium configurations have gone up even more.

The move shows a bigger trend in the PC business. As supplies get tighter, companies like Dell Technologies Inc., Lenovo, and HP Inc. are also changing prices or limiting configurations.

The main reason for the change is the need for AI. The growing use of AI applications is putting strain on memory supply chains, which raises costs for manufacturers and, in the end, for consumers.

Microsoft might be able to preserve its profits by raising prices, but they might also test demand in a PC market that is getting more expensive.
