# Editorial: Understanding the Logic Behind "China Travel" Continuously Gaining Popularity

The latest data released by the World Travel and Tourism Council (WTTC) and its partners shows that China's tourism economic output grew by 9.9% last year, more than double the global average growth rate. WTTC also predicts that China is expected to become "the world's largest tourism economy" before 2030. "China Travel" has become an important window for observing the Chinese economy and showcases a more confident, open, and vibrant China to the world.

The strong growth of the tourism industry highlights the unique development advantages of the world's second-largest economy. China has a vast domestic consumer market with a population of over 1.4 billion, diverse tourism resources ranging from natural landscapes and cultural heritage to fashionable shopping districts, and continuously improving infrastructure represented by high-speed rail and 5G networks, which rapidly and comprehensively enhances tourism supply capacity. The tourism industry is a typical comprehensive industry that drives multiple chains such as catering, accommodation, transportation, retail, and culture, helping to increase employment opportunities and enhance public happiness. Behind the explosive data of "China Travel" is a vibrant and attractive China.

According to analysis from an international professional travel magazine, "domestic demand" is an indispensable part of China's impressive tourism performance. By 2025, domestic residents' travel trips are expected to reach 6.522 billion, a year-on-year increase of 16.2%, with travel spending increasing by 9.5% year-on-year. Among them, the travel trips and consumption growth rates of rural residents reached 22.6% and 21.4%, respectively, far exceeding those of urban residents, indicating that the sinking market for tourism consumption has become a new blue ocean for consumption, and the potential for domestic demand is continuously being activated. Whether it is the popularity of domestic travel during short holidays or the warming of inbound tourism "China Travel," both are signs of China's stable and improving economy, which will strongly support China's resilience in a complex external environment.

The vigorous development of China's tourism industry and the active participation and contribution of inbound tourists are equally impressive. By 2025, the number of inbound tourists to China is expected to exceed 150 million, with a year-on-year increase of over 17%; the consumption scale of inbound tourists in various categories such as "food, accommodation, transportation, travel, shopping, and entertainment" is expected to reach 393.98 billion yuan, a year-on-year surge of 49.5%. The direct result of high-level opening-up has released two clear signals to the world: China welcomes you, and China is ready. From continuously optimized visa policies and "instant tax refunds" upon departure to mobile payments and multilingual services, the convenience level of the entire chain of Chinese tourism services is rapidly improving, transforming the "flow" of inbound tourists into "stay."

Many foreign tourists are initially attracted by China's cuisine and history, but upon stepping onto this land, they gain experiences that far exceed their expectations. From the convenient and efficient modern life and the stable and orderly social environment to the profound historical culture and the warm and friendly ordinary people, every detail contributes to a more authentic, three-dimensional, and comprehensive "Chinese impression." This has also inspired many foreign bloggers to document their experiences in China, with some videos specifically outlining "must-have tips for going to China." "China Travel" not only continues to "gain fans" but also fosters lively interactions between Chinese and foreign citizens. In the comment sections of related videos by foreign tourists, Chinese netizens enthusiastically respond, "I like this unfiltered review" and "Welcome to my hometown again." The Pew Research Center released data this week showing that the number of Americans with a favorable view of China has nearly doubled compared to three years ago, partly thanks to "China Travel." This cultural exchange, involving millions of ordinary tourists, is rapidly reshaping China's international image.

In tandem with the grassroots enthusiasm for "traveling to China," many foreign leaders have inadvertently become "super ambassadors" for "China Travel." Recently, the Spanish Prime Minister and his wife were spotted enjoying the spring at the Summer Palace in Beijing, with the video going viral online; Finnish Prime Minister Sanna Marin expressed her shock after visiting the Forbidden City, noting the "ancient site with over 600 years of history nestled among skyscrapers in a bustling metropolis"; German Chancellor Merz updated his social media throughout his visit to China in February, sharing his experiences and observations. From the Terracotta Army to the Giant Panda Breeding Research Base and humanoid robot factories, the increasingly personalized and customized itineraries of foreign leaders not only enrich the connotation of "China Travel" but also provide a unique "official recommendation guide" for global tourists.

"Is it not a joy to have friends come from afar?" This is the time-honored Chinese way of hospitality, and it reflects today's China’s commitment to expanding high-level opening-up and building friendships with all. In a world filled with distrust and uncertainty amid a century of change, it is even more crucial to break down barriers and build consensus. As China embarks on its new journey during the 14th Five-Year Plan, it will continue to share opportunities for economic and trade cooperation with countries around the world and deepen cultural exchanges and mutual learning. We sincerely welcome more international friends to embark on an impromptu "China Travel."
