The State Council’s Hong Kong and Macau Affairs Office (HKMAO) said its director, Xia Baolong, held talks with Chief Secretary Eric Chan Kwok-ki, Financial Secretary Paul Chan Mo-po and the newly appointed Secretary for Constitutional and Mainland Affairs Janice Tse Siu-wa on Thursday. They were joined by HKMAO executive deputy director Xu Qifang and newly appointed deputy head Zhang Dongmei, the first woman in the role since the office’s status was elevated in 2023. Photos showed a closed-door meeting and group shot at the Great Hall of the People. The Hong Kong government also issued a statement about the meeting late on Thursday, but no details were revealed. The three Hong Kong officials began their two-day visit to Beijing on Wednesday to discuss how to align the city’s strategies with the nation’s five-year plan, which guides development from 2026 to 2030. The national blueprint calls on the city to strengthen its role as an international financial hub by expanding its offshore yuan business and supply chain services, while accelerating the Northern Metropolis megaproject, which aims to turn 30,000 hectares (74,132 acres) of land near the city’s border with mainland China into an engine for economic growth and a housing hub. Beijing also pledged continued support for the city as an international hub for innovation and technology, legal and dispute resolution services, regional intellectual property trading, arts and cultural exchanges, and high-calibre talent. Xia, speaking at the opening ceremony of National Security Education Day on Wednesday, urged the local administration to actively align with national development strategies. He said the city’s own five-year plan, currently in preparation, should be scientific and forward-looking, with a strong emphasis on the Northern Metropolis. Separately, the Law Society concluded its four-day annual visit to Beijing on Thursday. The delegation was received by HKMAO deputy director Nong Rong on Monday. President Roden Tong Man-lung said Nong reaffirmed Beijing’s support for leveraging the legal sector’s strengths to align with the national plan and enhance rule-of-law credentials. ### Related Stocks - [00HSI.HK](https://longbridge.com/en/quote/00HSI.HK.md) - [02800.HK](https://longbridge.com/en/quote/02800.HK.md) - [07200.HK](https://longbridge.com/en/quote/07200.HK.md) - [159920.CN](https://longbridge.com/en/quote/159920.CN.md) - [513600.CN](https://longbridge.com/en/quote/513600.CN.md) - [07500.HK](https://longbridge.com/en/quote/07500.HK.md) - [03115.HK](https://longbridge.com/en/quote/03115.HK.md) - [07300.HK](https://longbridge.com/en/quote/07300.HK.md) ## Related News & Research - [China launches national plan to boost AI education](https://longbridge.com/en/news/282481609.md) - [China's economy likely picked up pace in first quarter: AFP survey](https://longbridge.com/en/news/282628627.md) - [Mixed China data highlight fragile recovery outlook: retail sales sad, industrial beat](https://longbridge.com/en/news/282924837.md)
