# Industry Report: The Economic Viability of Nuclear Power Faces Challenges, Suggests Improving Price Protection Mechanisms

The "China Nuclear Energy Development Report (2026)" blue paper released at the Spring Nuclear Energy Sustainable Development Forum on April 17 proposes that the economic viability of nuclear power faces challenges and calls for the establishment of a sustainable development mechanism. It suggests improving the nuclear power price guarantee mechanism, ensuring the consumption of electricity from nuclear power units within 7,000 hours through government-authorized contracts or price difference settlement, with the mechanism electricity price implemented according to current pricing policies; establishing a low-carbon certificate system for nuclear power to gain market recognition and realization of its low-carbon value; and guiding enterprises to reduce costs and increase efficiency through technological and management innovations while ensuring safety.
