# German apartment construction permits rise 24% in February, data show

FRANKFURT, April 17 (Reuters) - The number of permits for apartment construction in Germany rose 24% in February, data from the German statistics office showed on Friday, as the sector extended its recovery.

- The number of permits to build apartments rose by 4,300 from a year earlier to 22,200.
- The gains follow those in 2025, when permits for housing construction rose for the first time after three years of declines.
- The number of reported building permits is an early indicator of future construction activity.
- Rising interest rates and high material costs had weighed on the industry in recent years.
