# Trump Says U.S. Will Acquire All of Iran's Enriched Uranium Stockpiles; U.S. Media Reports Washington Considering 'Exchanging Iranian Funds for Iranian Uranium'

On Friday, the 17th (Eastern Time), as it was confirmed that Iran would fully open the Strait of Hormuz to commercial vessels, U.S. President Trump addressed the critical issue of uranium enrichment related to Iran's nuclear capabilities, stating that the United States would acquire all of Iran's enriched uranium stockpiles but would not pay any amount in any form or manner.

According to reports, Trump said Iran has agreed to indefinitely suspend its nuclear program and will not receive any frozen funds from the U.S. The U.S. will cooperate with Iran to recover its enriched uranium and bring it back to the United States. The U.S. side will proceed with the uranium recovery work at a leisurely pace, targeting high-enriched uranium.

Meanwhile, citing a report from American media on Friday, the 17th, Xinhua News Agency quoted U.S. officials and sources familiar with the matter who revealed that the U.S. is prepared to unfreeze $20 billion in Iranian funds in exchange for Iran giving up its enriched uranium stockpile.

The report noted that the U.S. and Iran are currently negotiating a three-page ceasefire understanding memorandum, with the plan to "exchange unfrozen funds for uranium" being one of its key components. Currently, both sides are negotiating issues such as the disposal method for the enriched uranium held by Iran and the amount of Iranian assets to be unfrozen.

Citing sources, the report stated that in the early stages of negotiations, the U.S. had initially proposed unfreezing $6 billion for Iran to purchase food, medicine, and other humanitarian supplies. At that time, Iran demanded the unfreezing of $27 billion. The latest figure under discussion between the two countries stands at $20 billion.

Furthermore, while the U.S. had previously requested that Iran agree to transport all its nuclear materials to the United States, Iran only consented to dilute these materials within its own territory. According to a current compromise proposal under discussion, some high-enriched uranium may be transported to a third country rather than necessarily to the United States.

The understanding memorandum currently under negotiation reportedly also includes a clause regarding Iran's "voluntary" suspension of uranium enrichment activities. Iran would be permitted to maintain nuclear research reactors for producing medical isotopes, provided it commits that all its nuclear facilities must be built above ground, while existing underground nuclear facilities will remain suspended. In the previous round of talks, the U.S. demanded a 20-year suspension of uranium enrichment, whereas Iran proposed a suspension of only five years.
