# Google is in talks with Marvell to manufacture new artificial intelligence chips

Google, a subsidiary of Alphabet, is in talks with Marvell Technology to develop two new chips aimed at running artificial intelligence models more efficiently.

One of the chips is a memory processing unit designed to work in conjunction with Google's Tensor Processing Unit (TPU), while the other chip is a new type of TPU specifically built for running artificial intelligence models.

Google has been pushing to make its TPU a viable alternative to NVIDIA's dominant GPU. Sales of TPUs have become a major driver of growth in Google's cloud computing revenue, as Google seeks to demonstrate to investors that its investments in artificial intelligence are paying off.

The goal of the two companies is to complete the design of the memory processing unit as early as next year and then deliver it for trial production
