At the 2026 &#34;Super Tech Day&#34; held in 2026, CATL concentrated on launching multiple next-generation battery technologies. This series of innovations has once again raised the ceiling for the global electric vehicle battery industry.
At the event held on April 21, CATL Chairman Zeng Yuqun and other executives, including Gao Huan, CTO of the China Passenger Car Division, presented the latest product matrix covering both Lithium Iron Phosphate (LFP) and Ternary Lithium technology routes. These products achieved significant breakthroughs in charging rates, energy density, and stability under extreme conditions.
According to Zhui Feng Trading Desk, after attending this event, the Jack Shang team of Citi analysts released a report stating that CATL's new technologies have once again raised the industry ceiling on &#34;key metrics,&#34; and will directly translate into competitive market advantages, helping the company further consolidate and increase its market share amidst fierce industry competition.
Based on recognition of its technological leadership advantage, Citi announced it is maintaining CATL as the sector's &#34;top pick&#34; and reiterated its &#34;Buy&#34; rating. The bank set a target price of 576 RMB for CATL's A-shares, implying an expected total return of up to 30.5%, sending a clear positive signal to investors.
<h2>Ultra-fast Charging and Lightweighting Refresh Performance Limits</h2>
According to the Citi report, CATL's third-generation Shenxing ultra-fast charging battery (LFP) achieved an average charging rate of 10C and a peak of 15C. This battery can charge from 10% to 35% in one minute and reach 98% in 6 minutes and 27 seconds. Even at -30°C, it takes just over 9 minutes to charge to 98%, and the State of Health (SOH) remains above 90% after 1,000 ultra-fast charging cycles.
Meanwhile, the third-generation Qilin Battery (Ternary Lithium), while achieving over 1,000 kilometers of range, also boasts an average charging rate of 10C and a peak of 15C. Citi pointed out that the 125 kWh battery pack weighs only 625 kg, with an energy density of 280 Wh/kg. Compared to LFP batteries achieving the same range, its weight is reduced by 255 kg. Additionally, the Qilin Condensed State Battery, adopting new high-nickel ternary cathodes and silicon-carbon anodes, can achieve an energy density of 350 Wh/kg, expected to extend the driving range to 1,500 kilometers.
<h2>Hybrid Upgrade and Sodium-ion Battery Mass Production Timeline</h2>
Addressing the hybrid market, CATL launched the second-generation Qilin Super Hybrid Battery.
The Citi report indicates that the LFP version of this product can achieve 500 kilometers of pure electric range, while the Ternary Lithium version reaches 600 kilometers; both support an average 10C ultra-fast charging. Notably, the bulletproof coating used in this battery can withstand impact energy of 1,500 joules, reaching ten times the national standard of 150 joules.
Regarding reserves of next-generation battery technologies, CATL management confirmed at the event that relevant technical challenges have been resolved, and its sodium-ion battery Naxtra will officially enter mass production in the fourth quarter of 2026.
<h2>Expansion of Swap Network and Valuation Prospects</h2>
Beyond technological iteration of the batteries themselves, CATL continues to invest heavily in infrastructure. The company launched integrated ultra-fast charging and swap stations to improve energy efficiency and released the No. 26 Chocolate Swap Block for the 800V platform, achieving comprehensive coverage for A0 to C-class electric vehicles. CATL plans to build 4,000 integrated ultra-fast charging and swap stations by the end of 2026.
On the valuation front, based on a 2026 expected Enterprise Value to EBITDA ratio (EV/EBITDA) of 18.2x, Citi set the target price for CATL's A-shares at 576 RMB and for H-shares at 621 HKD.
