# ChargePoint Just Unveiled The Fastest Standalone DC Charger For EVs

- ChargePoint unveiled the Express Solo DC fast charger today.
- The company claims it’s the world’s fastest standalone DC fast charger for passenger EVs.
- As its name suggests, it doesn’t need a separate power cabinet, but it can send up to 600 kW to each connected EV.

ChargePoint is upping the EV charging game with a new standalone dispenser that the company claims is the fastest in the world.

The ChargePoint Express Solo DC fast charger integrates all the necessary components into a single enclosure, eliminating the need for a separate power cabinet. This enables charging operators to install new stalls at space-constrained sites, but it doesn’t impede charging speeds.

According to ChargePoint, the new Express Solo can send up to 600 kilowatts of power, either to a single electric vehicle or to a pair of EVs. In the latter case, the power is dynamically split between the ports. What’s more, the stall itself can act as a power cabinet for a separate, independent stall that adds another two ports, but the total power output of the system is unchanged, at 600 kW.

The company describes the standalone charging solution as an industry-leading innovation, claiming that it can deliver approximately 40% higher power density than other DC charging solutions in the smallest footprint. By comparison, Alpitronic’s HYC400, one of the most popular standalone dual-port DC fast chargers in the industry, can deliver up to 400 kW. Tesla’s Superchargers and BYD’s Flash chargers use separate power cabinets.

“For those with plans for expansion, Express Solo enables scalable configurations for any charging scenario, futureproofing a station owner’s investment by giving drivers an ideal fast charging experience today while offering flexibility for the EVs of tomorrow,” said Rick Wilmer, ChargePoint’s CEO.

Co-developed with Eaton, ChargePoint’s Express Solo offers both CCS and NACS connectors, thanks to the company’s Omni Port solution that integrates charging adapters into the stalls. The new 600 kW dispenser is part of ChargePoint and Eaton’s Express architecture, which allows it to easily integrate with solar arrays and energy storage systems, while also providing bidirectional charging functionality. Unlike other ChargePoint products, which are constrained to specific markets, the Express Solo will be sold in the United States and Europe.
