# AMD pulls back after downgrade as rally cools

Advanced Micro Devices, Inc. took a breather Monday, slipping 3.5% after Northland Capital downgraded the stock, with the view that its nearly 60% surge over the past month may have gone a bit too far, too fast.

What's interesting is that the downgrade is not really about weak fundamentals. Analysts still expect AMD to beat and raise when it reports next week. The hesitation is more about how it stacks up against peers. While AMD's gross margins are sitting in the mid-50% range, comfortably above Intel Corporation in the high-30% to low-40% range, there is a sense that the overall results might not feel as strong in comparison. On top of that, AMD still needs to keep spending heavily on R&D as it tries to close the gap with NVIDIA Corporation (U.S. semiconductor company).

There is also a bigger concern quietly building in the background. Some analysts think AI infrastructure spending could start cooling by 2027, especially if hyperscalers begin pulling back after a heavy investment cycle.
