# DHL Group Backs Guidance Despite Expecting Continued Uncertainty — Update

By Dominic Chopping

DHL parent Deutsche Post still expects earnings to rise this year, despite anticipating global geopolitical uncertainty throughout it.

The German logistics company--also known as DHL Group--backed guidance for earnings before interest and taxes of at least 6.2 billion euros ($7.24 billion) this year and free cash flow of around 3 billion euros.

"We are well on track to achieve our full-year targets," said Chief Executive Tobias Meyer. "Our successful start to the year highlights the resilience of our business model and the impact of our efficiency measures."

DHL is working on efficiency improvements, active capacity management, and the implementation of a previously announced cost program that seeks to reduce the company's cost base by 1 billion euros across its entire operation, with the full impact expected to be realized in 2027.

Through network adjustments, its DHL Express unit was able to respond to the geopolitical impacts of the Middle East conflict and maintain service for its customers, it said. Conflict-related cost increases are expected to be mostly offset through pricing and surcharges.

Its express shipping and supply chain units both reported an increase in EBIT, while the freight forwarding, post and parcel Germany and e-commerce businesses registered declines.

In freight forwarding, the company said the business suffered from lower freight rates and currency effects, despite higher air and ocean freight volumes.

Hostilities in the Middle East have created logistical tangles in the region, closing airspace and forcing vessels to seek shelter or reroute. DHL has previously said that it typically benefits from such disruption, as it can lean on its air and road network to offer customers alternative options when ocean transport isn't viable.

The company said it continues to invest in operational efficiency and in regions and sectors with strong customer demand. It is expanding its capabilities in the data center market and aims to add more than 10 additional warehouse sites in North America by the end of 2026.

The new facilities will serve data-center operators that require reliable and secure supply chains as they expand rapidly, it said.

The group made a net profit of 812 million euros in the first quarter compared with 786 million euros in the same period a year earlier.

Revenue fell 1.9% to 20.42 billion euros.

A company-compiled consensus had forecast revenue of 20.71 billion euros and net profit of 764 million euros.
