# News: First quarter revenue plummets, Daqo New Energy's losses continue to widen

The polysilicon manufacturer **Daqo New Energy** (DQ.US; 688303.SH) reported on Wednesday a sharp decline in sales for the first quarter. Meanwhile, the Chinese government is taking measures to try to revitalize this industry, which is struggling due to severe overcapacity and weak prices.

Daqo New Energy's revenue for the first quarter was only $26.7 million, down 78% from $123.9 million in the same period last year. The company's polysilicon sales fell from 28,008 tons in the same period last year to 4,482 tons this quarter. The average selling price of polysilicon for the quarter was $5.96 per kilogram, roughly in line with its average total production cost of $5.95 per kilogram.

The company reported a loss of $88.4 million for the quarter, widening from a loss of $71.8 million in the same period last year.

After releasing the latest results, Daqo New Energy's stock price listed in New York fell nearly 12% on Wednesday, and the stock has declined about 35% this year.
