At the Value Investing Conference, experts suggested potential acquisitions, including S&P Global, Occidental Petroleum, and Copart. S&P Global's stock has dropped nearly 20% this year, while Occidental's full acquisition could exceed $50 billion. Copart, valued at around $30 billion, is also seen as a viable target. Additionally, Kinsale Capital Group's stock has fallen 40%, presenting further opportunities in the property and casualty insurance sector." datetime: "2026-05-03T08:02:55.000Z" locales: - [zh-CN](https://longbridge.com/zh-CN/news/284987833.md) - [en](https://longbridge.com/en/news/284987833.md) - [zh-HK](https://longbridge.com/zh-HK/news/284987833.md) --- # With $373 billion in cash at his disposal, experts offer advice to Warren Buffett's successor. Omaha, Nebraska—For Berkshire Hathaway's new CEO, Greg Abel, the most critical "hundred-billion-dollar problem" right now is how to utilize the company's massive cash reserves. The day before Berkshire's annual shareholder meeting, at the 17th annual Value Investing Conference hosted by Gabelli Fund in Omaha, Nebraska, Chris Bloomstrand, a senior research analyst at Berkshire and chief investment officer of investment firm Semper Augustus, made the above statement. As of the end of the year, Berkshire's cash reserves stood at $373 billion. Bloomstrand and other members of the panel discussion proposed several acquisition ideas for Abel. Bloomstrand mentioned S&P Global: a large company with a market capitalization of $125 billion that owns one of the top credit rating agencies—S&P Ratings. S&P Global is also a Barron's pick. Its stock has fallen nearly 20% this year to $429 due to market concerns about the disruptive impact of AI. Bloomstrand believes these concerns are exaggerated. He also points out that Berkshire already holds a substantial stake in S&P Global's competitor, Moody's. Bloomstrand adds that Berkshire may only need $100 billion in cash to support its insurance business, with ample funds remaining to undertake a large-scale merger and acquisition. Adam Mead, author of \*The Complete Financial History of Berkshire Hathaway\*, suggests that Berkshire could consider acquiring the remaining shares of Occidental Petroleum. Berkshire currently holds over 25% of the energy company. Occidental Petroleum's current share price is around $59; a full acquisition would likely cost over $50 billion. Mead also mentioned Copart, a leading company in the auction of damaged or scrapped vehicles (typically sold by insurance companies). He pointed out that the company has only one competitor, whose stock price has plummeted nearly 50% in the past year. He stated that Copart has a market capitalization of approximately $30 billion, with its valuation falling below a P/E ratio of 20, making it a suitable target for Berkshire Hathaway, and its current stock price is around $33. Brett Gardner, author of "The Early Investing Journey of Warren Buffett," mentioned Kinsale Capital Group, a highly profitable specialist property and casualty insurance company. Its stock has fallen about 40% from its high a year ago to $317—and hit a 52-week low on Friday. The property and casualty insurance sector as a whole was under pressure, dragged down by expectations of weaker premium pricing across the industry. Gardner also mentioned that Abel could leverage its own "circle of competence" to focus on the utilities and infrastructure sectors. ### Related Stocks - [KNSL.US](https://longbridge.com/en/quote/KNSL.US.md) - [OXY.US](https://longbridge.com/en/quote/OXY.US.md) - [CPRT.US](https://longbridge.com/en/quote/CPRT.US.md) - [SPGI.US](https://longbridge.com/en/quote/SPGI.US.md) - [BRK.A.US](https://longbridge.com/en/quote/BRK.A.US.md) - [BRK.B.US](https://longbridge.com/en/quote/BRK.B.US.md) - [MCO.US](https://longbridge.com/en/quote/MCO.US.md) - [OXY+.US](https://longbridge.com/en/quote/OXY+.US.md) ## Related News & Research - [S&P Global Declares Second Quarter Dividend | SPGI Stock News](https://longbridge.com/en/news/286969622.md) - [Why S&P Global stock topped the market today](https://longbridge.com/en/news/286829085.md) - [S&P Global Stock: Is Wall Street Bullish or Bearish?](https://longbridge.com/en/news/286554447.md) - [S&P Global and the S&P Global Foundation Announce Next Phase In $10 Million StepForward Initiative | SPGI Stock News](https://longbridge.com/en/news/286412388.md) - [Neogenyx Fuels and Adams Land & Cattle to Construct Renewable Natural Gas Facility in Nebraska | AMRC Stock News](https://longbridge.com/en/news/286908780.md)
