# GTA 6 crunch rumors are pointing to a troubling pattern

Grand Theft Auto 6 is one of the most anticipated entertainment releases in recent memory, and as its launch window draws closer, a pair of anonymous Glassdoor reviews are raising uncomfortable questions about what it has taken to get the game across the finish line.

The reviews, posted by individuals claiming to be Rockstar Games employees, describe unpaid overtime, extreme late-night hours and compressed timelines that allegedly require months of work to be completed in a fraction of the expected time. Neither account has been verified, but the details in both have been enough to reignite a conversation about crunch culture in the gaming industry at a moment when attention on Rockstar is at an all-time high.

### **What the Glassdoor reviews claim**

The first review, posted on April 30 by a self-described former game tester based in Washington, D.C., awarded Rockstar five out of five stars and expressed genuine pride in the studio’s technical achievements while flagging concerns about working hours. The second review, posted on May 1 by a self-described current QA analyst at Rockstar India in Bengaluru, was significantly more critical. That reviewer gave the company two out of five stars and titled the post with a description referencing an unrealistic workload and expectations.

The Bengaluru review is the one drawing the most attention. It alleges that tasks normally requiring five to six months are being expected in two to three, that overtime is required without additional pay, and that colleagues have worked until 3 a.m. after completing earlier shifts the same morning.

The reviewer also noted that raising the issue with department heads has gone nowhere, and described the recent weeks as taking a meaningful toll on mental health, closing with a direct appeal for more humane treatment. On a more positive note, the same reviewer acknowledged free food and what they described as growth opportunities, as well as working on what they called the most anticipated entertainment project in the world.

### **Why the claims are credible but unverified**

Glassdoor does not require users to verify their employment before leaving a review, and fabricated posts are a documented problem on employer review platforms. That context is important. Neither review has been independently confirmed, and Rockstar Games and parent company Take-Two Interactive have not commented on the allegations.

At the same time, several details in the posts add plausibility without confirming them. Rockstar did hire QA testers at its Bengaluru office earlier this year. The studio has a documented history of crunch on previous titles, including multiple reports that some Red Dead Redemption 2 teams worked 100-hour weeks during that game’s final development stretch.

The proximity to what is widely expected to be a late 2026 launch window for GTA 6 also aligns with when final QA and polish work would typically be at its most intense. Gaming industry insider Kiwi Talkz, who previously reported that GTA 6 is the most expensive game ever made, acknowledged the likelihood of the scenario while noting the broader context of work culture expectations in India’s technology sector.

### **A familiar pattern in the gaming industry**

Crunch has been a persistent and damaging feature of AAA game development for decades, and it tends to intensify most dramatically during the final months before a major release. Naughty Dog has previously acknowledged treating crunch as effectively inevitable after completing the first The Last of Us. Other studios have faced similar scrutiny, and the issue has prompted growing calls across the industry for better labor protections and more sustainable development practices.

GTA 6 has been in development since approximately 2018 and has been delayed twice, which might suggest ample time to avoid a crunch scenario. Long development cycles and excessive overtime are not mutually exclusive, however, and the scale of expectations surrounding GTA 6 creates its own category of pressure.

Take-Two’s CEO has publicly acknowledged feeling significant anxiety about how the game will be received after such an extended wait, which suggests the internal urgency is real regardless of how the anonymous reviews are ultimately assessed.

Whether the Glassdoor accounts reflect the genuine experience of Rockstar employees or represent something else entirely, they have landed at a moment when the gaming community is paying maximum attention to everything connected to this release, and the conversation they have started about working conditions is not going away quietly.
