(Image credit: Yiche) Road test spy shots of Xiaomi's (HKG: 1810) first full-size sport utility vehicle (SUV) have surfaced online, indicating that the tech giant is accelerating the expansion of its product lineup in China's fiercely competitive electric vehicle (EV) market. Chinese auto media Yiche shared several new images of the model on Tuesday, showing its massive body size and a LiDAR sensor on the roof. The new model, internally codenamed "Kunlun," is expected to be officially released in the second half of this year, the report said. Join us on Telegram or Google News It may eventually be named YU9 and is an extended-range SUV specifically tailored for the family market, according to the report. It is worth noting that on Chinese social media platforms, including Weibo, the model has begun to be referred to as the Xiaomi Skynomad. The new car features boxy and rugged exterior lines and is equipped with highly recognizable water-drop rear-view mirrors. The LiDAR bump on the roof suggests that the model will be equipped with Xiaomi's latest Advanced Driver Assistance System (ADAS). The large SUV will feature a large battery pack with a capacity of over 70 kilowatt-hours, providing a pure electric range of 400 to 500 kilometers, the report noted. Over the past year, new extended-range electric vehicle (EREV) models launched in China have increasingly adopted ultra-large battery packs to offer an experience more akin to battery electric vehicle (BEV) models. The Xiaomi SUV is expected to exceed 5.2 meters in length and is likely to offer six- and seven-seat options. It will compete directly with popular family models such as Li Auto's Li L9 and the Huawei-backed Aito M9. This is a crucial component of Xiaomi's core product planning for 2026, as the company seeks to further enrich its product matrix. In addition to this full-size SUV, Xiaomi said last week that it plans to launch the high-performance pure electric SUV model YU7 GT at the end of May. The YU7 GT has a combined maximum power of up to 738 kW (990 hp), according to its regulatory filing information. Its price is expected to be between 450,000 yuan ($65,903) and 500,000 yuan. Xiaomi EV achieved a strong sales recovery in the just-passed month of April, with single-month deliveries exceeding 30,000 units. Xiaomi EV plans to launch YU9, YU7 GT, and SU7 L next, report says The YU7 GT is likely to become Xiaomi's first model launched in the European market, competing with vehicles including the Tesla Model Y Performance.
