As China’s 8.6-generation OLED production capacity gradually comes online, Chinese companies are expected to gain a larger share of the global OLED market and reshape the industry landscape.At SID Display Week 2026, Chinese firms highlighted advances in medium-sized and foldable OLED displays. Visionox presented wearable and notebook displays combining ViP and Tandem technologies, saying its medium-sized 4K notebook display delivers more accurate color reproduction than comparable Fine Metal Mask OLED screens while reducing power consumption in daily-use scenarios by 10 percent and extending battery life. TCL China Star Optoelectronics Technology (TCL CSOT) unveiled its first 28-inch printed OLED foldable portable desktop display, which measures only 4.48 millimeters thick when unfolded.South Korean companies also showcased new OLED technologies targeting premium and AI-enabled applications. Samsung Display introduced a wide-color-gamut OLED display with brightness of up to 3,000 nits, as well as a 500 pixels-per-inch OLED panel equipped with sensors capable of measuring heart rate and blood pressure while incorporating privacy protection technology.LG Display presented technologies centered on “OLED evolution in the AI era,” including an automotive Tandem OLED display with brightness of 1,200 nits, lower power consumption, and extended service life that is scheduled for mass production this year and could later be expanded to laptop applications. The company also showcased a lighter and thinner 16-inch Tandem OLED panel for AI laptops with longer battery life.China’s OLED Capacity Expansion Reshapes Industry OutlookLi Yaqin, general manager of Sigmaintell, told Yicai that the global OLED panel market reached USD46.2 billion in 2025. The development of OLED technologies in the coming years will feature increasingly diversified competition, which will help expand OLED applications and improve market recognition, Li said. More leading consumer electronics brands are expected to adopt OLED panels in their products, she added, noting that Apple’s MacBook Pro will use OLED panels for the first time this year.“Over the long term, we remain optimistic about the increasing penetration of OLED technology across various applications in the small- and medium-sized display market,” Li said.Zhou Hua, chief analyst at CINNO Research, told Yicai that the market size of Chinese OLED panels climbed to about CNY100 billion (USD13.8 billion) for the first time last year, accounting for 30 percent of the global OLED panel market.According to Zhou, competition between China and South Korea in OLEDs is increasingly focused on AI integration and emerging applications.
