# Qualcomm opens R&D center in Vietnam to expand high-tech research

Qualcomm Technologies opened a new research and development (R&D) center in Hanoi, marking an expansion of the U.S. technology company’s high-tech research operations in the country, Vietnam’s Ministry of Science and Technology said on Tuesday..

The launch of the R&D center is nearly a year after Qualcomm made an announcement in June 2025 of building the facility in Vietnam. At the time, Qualcomm said the facility is the third-biggest of its kind in the world, following those in India and Ireland.

Speaking at the event on Tuesday, Deputy Minister of Science and Technology Bui Hoang Phuong said Vietnam can facilitate the development of high technology and the semiconductor industry, such as political and social stability, a strategic position in global supply chains, and a young dynamic STEM workforce.

According to the deputy minister, Qualcomm’s R&D center in Hanoi represents a strategic milestone and demonstrates the company’s long-term commitment to research and technology development in Vietnam. He also highlighted Qualcomm’s participation in workforce training and its contributions to Vietnam’s innovation ecosystem.

Besides, Phuong acknowledged Qualcomm’s recent cooperation activities in areas including 5G, artificial intelligence, Open RAN, startup support and partnerships with universities and research institutes.

The Ministry of Science and Technology said it would continue supporting U.S. technology companies in implementing high-tech investment and incentive policies in Vietnam.
