# Tesla Gets Belgium Approval for Self-Driving Tests

Tesla (TSLA, Financials) is moving a little further into Europe's self-driving market after regulators in Belgium approved a limited public-road test for the company's supervised driving software.

The approval applies to one vehicle in the Flanders region. Testing is expected to start once registration and insurance paperwork are completed.

The trial itself is fairly small, but it gives Tesla another opportunity to show regulators how the system performs outside the United States.

European officials have generally taken a slower approach toward self-driving technology, especially when compared with the U.S. market. Road conditions, traffic patterns and local rules can vary widely across the region, which is one reason regulators want additional testing before allowing broader use.

Tesla's software still requires drivers to stay engaged and keep their hands ready to take control if necessary.
