# Midday Market Review on May 14: All Three Major Indices Drop Over 1%, More Than 4,300 Stocks Decline

1.  The market opened higher in the morning but trended lower, with all three major indices dropping by more than 1%. The industrial gas concept strengthened against the trend, with CSSC Special Gas and Heyuan Gas hitting their daily upper limits. The silicon carbide concept was active, with Tianfu Energy hitting its daily upper limit and Sino-Advanced Materials rising more than 10%. The propylene oxide concept rallied, with Hongbaoli and Hongqiang Shares hitting their daily upper limits. On the downside, the power grid equipment sector adjusted, with Tongda Shares hitting its daily lower limit; semiconductor chip stocks slumped, with China Great Wall hitting its daily lower limit. Decliners outnumbered advancers, with more than 4,400 stocks falling across the Shanghai, Shenzhen, and Beijing markets. Morning turnover amounted to RMB 2.29 trillion. At the midday close, the SSE Index dropped 1.02%, the Shenzhen Index declined 1.6%, and ChiNext fell 1.93%.
    
2.  In terms of sectors and concepts, industrial gases, silicon carbide, propylene oxide, and pork led the gains; while lithium mining, military industry, power grid equipment, and film and television media led the declines;
    
3.  Across the two markets, 1,095 stocks rose, with 60 hitting their daily upper limits; 4,042 stocks fell, with 25 hitting their daily lower limits; 22 stocks broke their daily upper limits, resulting in a break rate of 33%.
