# Elon Musk's xAI Just Launched New Coding Agent Grok Build

Elon Musk's AI firm, xAI, launched _Grok Build_ on Thursday, which is a new AI coding agent designed for software engineering and more complex programming work. The tool is available first to SuperGrok Heavy subscribers, and it is meant to help developers plan, review, and make code changes in a cleaner way. The launch also comes as xAI is reportedly trying to get more Wall Street firms to use Grok ahead of SpaceX's expected IPO.

The main feature of Grok Build is its "plan mode," which is designed for more complex coding tasks. Instead of immediately changing code, Grok Build can first create a plan that the user can approve, edit, comment on, or fully rewrite before anything happens. Once the plan is approved, xAI says every change appears as a clean diff, which means that developers can clearly see what was changed and review it more easily. The company also said that Grok Build initially works with AGENTS.md, plugins, hooks, skills, and MCP servers.

At the same time, xAI is trying to grow Grok by pushing Wall Street banks to subscribe to it before they can secure a role in SpaceX's expected IPO, which could begin roadshows in June. Unsurprisingly, some of Musk's firms have already started testing Grok internally, but adoption is still limited compared with OpenAI's ChatGPT and Anthropic's Claude. Indeed, some finance users reportedly still view Grok as a weaker tool for everyday work, but Grok Build gives xAI another way to make the product more useful.

When it comes to Elon Musk's companies, most of them are privately held. However, retail investors can invest in his most popular company, Tesla (TSLA). Turning to Wall Street, analysts have a Hold consensus rating on TSLA stock based on 12 Buys, 12 Holds, and five Sells assigned in the past three months, as indicated by the graphic below. Furthermore, the average TSLA price target of $403.86 per share implies 9% downside risk.
