# Singapore Space & Technology think tank launches Singapore’s first space innovation lab

The Singapore Space & Technology Think Tank (SST Think Tank) has launched the Singapore Space Lab, the country’s first dedicated space innovation lab aimed at supporting the commercial adoption of space technologies across Southeast Asia.

In a statement on Wednesday, the SST Think Tank said the lab, supported by Deloitte, can serve as a platform for businesses, investors, startups, government agencies and international partners to explore commercial applications of space-based technologies.

According to SST Think Tank and Deloitte, increased adoption of Earth observation data could contribute nearly $100 billion in cumulative GDP value across Southeast Asia between 2023 and 2030. The organizations also projected that the broader Asia-Pacific region could see $619 billion in cumulative value from wider Earth observation adoption by 2030.

The launch comes as Southeast Asian countries including Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia, the Philippines, Thailand, and Vietnam expand investments in space-related infrastructure, satellite capabilities and regulatory frameworks. Singapore formally launched its National Space Agency in April 2026, while Vietnam inaugurated the Vietnam National Space Centre in Hanoi in March 2026.

The Singapore Space Lab will focus on applications of technologies such as Earth observation, satellite communications, geospatial analytics, positioning, navigation and timing systems across sectors including agriculture, maritime, logistics, energy, finance, sustainability and urban planning.

Nicolette Yeo, general manager of SST Think Tank, noted the lab can help translate space technologies into commercial and economic applications for industries on Earth. The lab will also support SST Think Tank’s Growth Lab accelerator program for Singapore-based space companies seeking international expansion.

The Singapore Space Lab is also expected to support regional collaboration through the Asia Pacific Alliance for Space Trade Associations (AASTA), which includes participation from Japan, South Korea, Australia, New Zealand and the United Kingdom.
