Image credit: Xiaomi EV) Xiaomi's (HKEX: 1810) EV unit announced Monday that the highly anticipated high-performance all-electric SUV (sport utility vehicle) model, the YU7 GT, will officially launch on May 21. The launch event, scheduled for 7:00 pm Beijing time that evening, will also feature the release of mobile devices including the Xiaomi 17 Max smartphone, new clip-on earphones, and the Band 10 Pro smart band. Xiaomi EV said on the Chinese social media platform Weibo that YU7 GT display cars are currently available in 268 stores across 82 cities in China. The company noted that the display cars currently only offer static exterior viewing, while interior experiences and test drive services will officially open to the public after its market launch. Xiaomi EV positions the YU7 GT as a pure-blooded GT, equipped with a powerful dual-motor system that delivers a combined maximum power of up to 738 kW (990 hp). The new model can reach a top speed of 300 kilometers per hour and has an all-electric range of 705 kilometers under the CLTC (China Light-Duty Vehicle Test Cycle). The performance beast is expected to be priced around 400,000 yuan ($58,950). The regular YU7 was launched in June 2025 with a starting price of 253,500 yuan. Xiaomi EV said earlier this month that unlike the SU7 Ultra sedan, which focuses on top-tier track lap times, the YU7 GT is not a race car purely pursuing extreme performance, but rather strikes a careful balance among high performance, luxurious comfort, and long range. In terms of exterior design, the new car features an iconic long hood and a sports-car-level wide-body design, and is equipped with carbon-ceramic brake discs. The YU7 GT is the pinnacle flagship of the YU7 family, jointly tuned by Chinese and European experts, using Germany's Nürburgring Nordschleife as a top-tier testing ground to ensure its stability in corners and premium driving quality during long-distance travel, Xiaomi EV said. The roll-out of this new model will further strengthen Xiaomi's competitive position in the premium EV market. The company delivered 36,702 vehicles in April, up 28.40% year-on-year and up 71.18% from March, according to data compiled by CnEVPost.
