# Gotion receives €92 million for two battery projects in Spain

The funding is provided through the eMobility funding programme PERTE, which has previously supported VW subsidiary Seat, the Stellantis Group, and VW’s battery division PowerCo, each securing grants worth hundreds of millions of euros.

Gotion High-Tech’s two projects in Spain were initially associated with the Slovakian battery cell manufacturer InoBat. However, after Gotion became a shareholder in InoBat, control of the initiative transferred to the Chinese company, whose largest shareholder is Volkswagen. In return, Gotion supports VW in developing the Unified Cell and its serial production.

Specifically, the two projects in Valladolid involve a total investment of €944.3 million. Gotion plans to construct two facilities: one for battery cathode production and the other for battery recycling. The recycling plant will recover ‘black mass,’ a material from which valuable raw materials for manufacturing new battery cells can be extracted.

Gotion intends to operate the two facilities in Spain in conjunction with its planned battery cell production plant in Morocco, where it aims to establish a facility with a capacity of 20 GWh.
