# Lisa Su's Speech in Shanghai: Predicts 5 Billion Daily AI Users Within Five Years, Highlights Indispensable Role of Chinese Developers

AMD CEO Lisa Su, head of the chip giant, has been sending strong positive signals during her intensive visits to Beijing and Shanghai this week.

On May 19, Su delivered a keynote speech at the AMD AI Developer Day held in Shanghai. She pointed out that **China possesses "the world's most vibrant AI ecosystem," affirming the importance and innovative capabilities of Chinese developers**. Su predicted that **over the next five years (by 2030), the number of global daily AI users will grow from 1 billion to 5 billion. She believes that AI will be ubiquitous in the future.** With the advent of the agentic AI era, the importance of CPUs is increasingly rising, enabling more people to access AI technologies.

According to Xinhua News Agency, Su stated in Beijing on the afternoon of May 18 that she was deeply honored by her visit to China, emphasizing that **the Chinese market is extremely important**. In conversations with Ren Hongbin, President of the China Council for the Promotion of International Trade, Su noted that computing power has become key to AMD's business operations, and expressed her fortune in maintaining stable and strong cooperative relationships with major Chinese partners in this field. **"I always look forward to both sides continuously deepening cooperation and expanding into more areas."**

In the new phase of accelerated AI adoption, AMD is striving to deeply embed itself into China, the world's most vibrant AI ecosystem, by strengthening local partnerships.

## Thirty Years of Deep Roots in China, R&D Layout Covering the Full Technology Stack

In her Shanghai speech, Su elaborated on AMD's long-term strategic foundation in China. She stated that **AMD has been deeply rooted in China for over thirty years, and China is indeed a crucial part of the company's development roadmap, covering numerous fields such as chips, AI software, and engineering platforms.**

Regarding R&D investment, Su revealed that AMD's Greater China region currently has more than 4,000 engineers in its main R&D centers, with the Shanghai R&D center being one of AMD's largest globally.

She emphasized that AMD's investment is not limited to R&D itself but "truly covers every layer of the entire technology stack, including silicon software systems," aiming to engage with "some of the world's top AI practitioners."

Speaking about the Chinese market, Su used positive language. She pointed out in her speech: "The most exciting aspect of the Chinese ecosystem is that it is a place that truly understands open innovation, representing a very special case study."

## AI User Base to Reach 5 Billion, Agentic AI Drives Rising CPU Demand

Su made specific predictions about the speed of AI adoption in her speech. She stated that **currently, more than 1 billion people worldwide use AI daily, a figure expected to grow to 5 billion within the next five years (by 2030), with AI becoming "ubiquitous" in the future.**

She also noted that significant progress has been made in the AI field in just the past five months, particularly in the direction of agents. With the arrival of agentic AI, the strategic importance of CPUs is growing day by day. AMD stated that it will focus on accelerating AI momentum this year.

Following the speech, Su engaged in a dialogue with Kai-Fu Lee, Founder and CEO of 01.ai and Chairman of Sinovation Ventures, centered on the "new paradigm of AI agents." Lee stated that the new paradigm driven by agentic AI marks the industry's entry into a new stage of autonomous execution, which will become the greatest opportunity for industrial and corporate transformation in the current AI landscape.
