This shift could benefit companies like Nvidia (NVDA), Tesla (TSLA), and XPeng (XPEV), as automation becomes essential for maintaining factory output. Barclays emphasizes that this decade may belong to robotics in China, presenting investment opportunities in AI and robotic technologies." datetime: "2026-05-19T11:30:03.000Z" locales: - [zh-CN](https://longbridge.com/zh-CN/news/286906168.md) - [en](https://longbridge.com/en/news/286906168.md) - [zh-HK](https://longbridge.com/zh-HK/news/286906168.md) --- # China's Labor Crunch Could Spark a Robot Boom, Putting NVDA, TSLA, and XPEV in Focus China's workforce is shrinking, and that could turn humanoid robots into a key part of the country's next growth plan. According to Barclays Plc (BCS), robots could offset as much as 60% of China's expected decline in labor force by 2035. However, a huge demographic problem could become an investment opportunity in robotics. ### Claim 55% Off TipRanks Trade NVDA with leverage Looking for exposure to SpaceX & Anthropic? Check out AGIX ETF The bank sees China's workforce shrinking by 37 million people over the next decade, based on a 65% labor force rate. That is a real issue for China, since its factory sector makes up about a quarter of the country's economy. At the same time, Barclays says China could have nearly 24 million humanoid robots in use by 2035 under an upbeat scenario. That would make robots equal to almost 4% of the labor force. As Barclays analysts put it, China's labor decline is "strengthening the economic case for automation and robotics as a partial offset to tightening labor supply." ## **Robots Become a Growth Tool for China** China's birth rate has been low, and its working-age population has been shrinking for years. In 2025, that group made up about 61% of the full population, down from more than 70% a decade ago. As a result, Beijing has been pushing tech, AI, and robotics as a way to boost output even as the pool of workers shrinks. That gives the robot theme a clear purpose of keeping its factory base strong as its people age. Barclays summed it up in clear terms: "This is the decade of the robot, and it belongs to China." ## **Stocks Investors May Watch** For U.S. investors, Nvidia Corporation ($NVDA may be one of the cleanest ways to track this theme. Nvidia builds chips and tools used in AI, data centers, and robot training. Tesla (TSLA) is also part of the story through its Optimus robot project. Tesla has pitched Optimus as a future labor tool, though it is still early. XPeng Inc. (XPEV), a China-based electric car maker, has also moved into humanoid robots through its IRON robot plans. That gives the stock a more direct link to China's robotics sector. Investors may also watch UBTECH Robotics Corp Ltd. **(HK:9880)**, a Chinese robotics firm listed in Hong Kong, which has a more direct focus on humanoid robots. Still, Barclays adds a clear warning. Its 60% offset view is an "upper bound," based on upbeat views for robot use, wear and tear, and China's ability to absorb millions of units. The key point for investors is simple. China's labor gap may push robotics from a future tech story into a real factory need. That could help firms tied to AI chips, robotic tools, factory technology, and humanoid robots in the long run.
