# Tesla begins recruiting FSD test drivers across China

Tesla appears to be moving closer to launching Full Self-Driving (FSD) in China, with a new wave of job postings potentially revealing the first cities where the advanced driver-assistance system could roll out.

The job postings come after Tesla CFO Vaibhav Taneja stated during the Q1 2026 earnings call the company was working to launch FSD in China in Q3 this year, putting a potential launch sometime between July and September.

Starting last week Tesla began recruiting for a new “Intelligent Driving Test Engineer / Autopilot Test Engineer” role in China. While the position is primarily based in Shanghai’s Lingang district, Tesla later updated the posting to specifically mention additional opportunities in Beijing, Guangzhou, Shenzhen, Tianjin, Suzhou, Chongqing, Chengdu, and Wuhan.

The newly listed locations are some of China’s largest and most complex urban driving environments, featuring dense traffic, complicated intersections, and a wide variety of road layouts, making them ideal locations for training and validating autonomous driving systems ahead of broader consumer deployment.

The job description itself also suggests Tesla is preparing for a significant expansion of real-world autonomous driving validation in China. The role involves testing active safety and Autopilot systems on public roads, proving grounds, and test tracks while working directly with Tesla’s AI and vehicle firmware teams.

Engineers would also be responsible for validating Tesla’s systems against existing and upcoming regulatory and safety requirements, another sign the company is preparing for wider rollout approvals.

Tesla’s requirements for the role also highlight the advanced nature of the work. Candidates are expected to have experience with ADAS systems, vehicle testing, CAN hardware, software debugging, and data analysis tools such as Python, C/C++, and MATLAB.

The company also notes applicants must be comfortable driving prototype vehicles that may lack certain safety features during testing.

While Tesla has technically offered a limited version of its advanced driver-assistance software in China since early 2025 under the name “Intelligent Assisted Driving” or “Tesla Assisted Driving” (TAD), Chinese customers still do not have access to the latest-generation FSD (Supervised) experience available in North America. That earlier rollout was restricted to a small number of owners and was later paused as Tesla continued working through regulatory approvals.

Now, however, signs are pointing to an official launch, especially after Elon Musk’s visit to China last week. Tesla employees in the country are reportedly already testing newer FSD v14 builds under strict NDA agreements. Additionally, updated Model 3 and Model Y owner manuals now reference upcoming FSD-like features, and these job postings suggest wider testing is imminent.
