Fang Cheng Bao has reached a cumulative sales volume of 400,000 vehicles, marking a significant milestone for the premium personalized brand under BYD (HKEX: 1211).

The brand announced the achievement on Weibo on Wednesday, highlighting its rapid expansion pace in China's increasingly competitive EV market.

The milestone vehicle was the Fang Cheng Bao's popular Tai 7 sport utility vehicle (SUV), which also represents the 150,000th Tai 7 sold by the brand.

Officially launched by BYD on June 9, 2023, Fang Cheng Bao is a personalized new energy vehicle brand focusing on the hardcore off-road and urban mobility segments.

The brand's market positioning is set between its parent company's mass-market Dynasty and Ocean lineup and the ultra-luxury Yangwang brand.

Fang Cheng Bao just launched the Tai 7 EV fast-charging edition in late April, with an official suggested retail price ranging from 199,800 yuan ($29,340) to 209,800 yuan.

The Tai 7 EV flash charging edition offers consumers the flexible choice of rear-wheel-drive versions with two different ranges: 675 kilometers and 755 kilometers.

Customers who opt for the 755-kilometer long-range version can also choose to pay an additional 30,000 yuan for a premium all-wheel-drive system package.

Fang Cheng Bao's latest milestone arrives as the BYD group faces capacity constraints due to a technological transition.

Xiong Tianbo, general manager of the Fang Cheng Bao division, posted on Weibo on Tuesday that normal deliveries of the Tai 3 flash charging edition have begun, following delays caused by capacity bottlenecks.

The Tai 3 flash charging edition hit the market on March 13. Its original mid-April delivery schedule promised to customers was forced to be postponed to May.

In addition, Tai 7 fast-charging vehicles have begun shipping to retail stores in select cities, with mass customer deliveries expected to fully commence in early June.

Deliveries of the Bao 8 and Bao 5 fast-charging models to long-awaiting consumers are also slated to officially begin in mid-June.

BYD chairman Wang Chuanfu warned on May 15 that vehicle deliveries across several of the company's brands have been affected by tight battery production capacity.

The core reason for the capacity squeeze is the company's comprehensive shift to its second-generation Blade Battery products and flash charging technology, which feature the ability to charge to 97% within 9 minutes.

Because the transition between old and new technologies inevitably requires halting production to upgrade older lines, the delivery cycles for several of BYD's main selling models have been significantly prolonged recently.

Fang Cheng Bao is one of the strongest growing brands under the BYD umbrella, selling 29,138 vehicles in April, a 190.25% year-on-year increase, according to data compiled by CnEVPost.

In the January-April period, the brand sold 93,681 vehicles, surging 220.27% year-on-year.
