For the three months ended May 2, the semiconductor company posted on Wednesday net income of $1.18 billion, or $2.40 a share, compared with $569.8 million, or $1.14 a share, in the same quarter a year ago. Adjusted earnings were $3.09 a share. According to FactSet, analysts were expecting $2.88 a share, while the company guided for $2.88 a share, plus or minus 15 cents. Revenue rose to $3.62 billion from $2.64 billion, coming in ahead of the $3.51 billion expected by analysts, and the company's guidance of $3.5 billion, plus or minus $100 million. Chief Executive and Chair Vincent Roche said the quarter's performance was driven operational discipline and continued growing demand across B2B markets of industrial, automotive and communications. Roche said the trends of the second quarter are continuing into the next. "These positive demand signals are reflected in our outlook for continued strong growth in the third quarter," he said. For the third quarter, Analog Devices forecasts revenue of $3.8 billion to $4 billion, topping consensus estimates of $3.61 billion. Adjusted earnings are expected to be between $3.30 a share, plus or minus 15 cents, with analysts expecting $2.99 a share. Reported earnings per share are projected at $2.60 a share, plus or minus 15 cents.
