# Tesla Stock (NASDAQ:TSLA) Gains as Cybertruck Driver Tests "Wade Mode" and Fails

Tesla has made some rather…interesting…claims around its Cybertruck. Some might dismiss these as "corporate puffery," which seems to be electric vehicle giant Tesla's (TSLA) current legal strategy. But the Cybertruck was supposed to have one feature in particular that caught attention: Wade Mode. One Cybertruck driver decided to test Wade Mode for himself, and ended up floating in Grapevine Lake in Texas. The news proved oddly welcome for Tesla shareholders, who sent shares up over 2% in Wednesday afternoon's trading.

One of Tesla's claims around the Cybertruck was that it would be "…waterproof enough to serve briefly as a boat, so it can cross rivers, lakes, and even seas that aren't too choppy." A test of that notion on 8,000-acre Grapevine Lake, northwest of Dallas, proved to not go well for the Cybertruck owner who tried it.

The driver drove into the lake, intending to test Wade Mode for himself, and the vehicle ultimately became disabled, taking on water. The vehicle was subsequently pulled out of the water by the fire department, and the driver charged with operating a vehicle in a closed section of park or lake as well as other "…water safety equipment violations." Wade Mode does work, Tesla pointed out in official documentation, but also noted that the body of water in question should never be deeper than 32 inches, or just under three feet.

## **Chinese Hiring Explosion**

Tesla is also hiring heavily in China right now, looking for "driver assistance" roles. Autopilot test engineers, data labelers, and test operators are all on the "help wanted" rosters at Tesla. Such jobs can be found in nine major cities, including Beijing, Guangzhou, Shanghai and Wuhan.

Driver assistance tools have been repeatedly delayed in China, reports note, and Tesla wants to fill in those gaps. In fact, reports note that several of Tesla's competitors in the region are getting farther along with driver assistance features than Tesla itself is. That makes filling in those gaps all the more vital, to prevent potential customers from heading across the street to get the features they want.

## **Is Tesla a Buy, Hold or Sell?**

Turning to Wall Street, analysts have a Hold consensus rating on TSLA stock based on 12 Buys, 12 Holds, and five Sells assigned in the past three months, as indicated by the graphic below. After a 20.77% rally in its share price over the past year, the average TSLA price target of $403.86 per share implies 2.22% downside risk.
