# SANY Renewable Energy to start building Alibunar wind parks in Serbia by end-June

## SANY Renewable Energy has signed agreements with contractors for its wind power projects Alibunar 1 and 2 in northeastern Serbia. The China-based company said it would start construction by the end of the second quarter.

Representatives of SANY Renewable Energy visited key Serbian energy stakeholders including state-owned power utility Elektroprivreda Srbije (EPS), the Ministry of Mining and Energy, and the country’s transmission system operator Elektromreža Srbije (EMS). At the meetings, the company expressed appreciation to Serbian authorities and institutional partners for their strong cooperation and continued support in the development of the projects Alibunar Wind Farm 1 and 2, according to the update. The planned total capacity is 168 MW.

The projects secured contracts for difference (CfDs) at the country’s second round of renewable energy auctions, after which the ownership transitioned to SANY Renewable Energy. Headquartered in Beijing, it is one of the world’s biggest wind turbine manufacturers and renewable technology providers.

### First delivery of electricity in early 2028

SANY Renewable Energy revealed that it has closed the engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contracts. It said it would start the construction works before the end of the second quarter, as planned. The company expects to start generating and delivering electricity to the transmission grid in early 2028.

The sites for Alibunar 1 (96.6 MW) and Alibunar 2 (71.4 MW) are in the Banat area, northeast of Serbia’s capital Belgrade. An operational wind power plant nearby is also called Alibunar. Notably, SANY Group is working on major projects for solar and hybrid power plants with a data center in neighboring Romania.

### Project acquisitions are under consideration

At the meetings in Serbia, the representatives of SANY Renewable Energy highlighted the fact that Alibunar 1 and 2 are its first investment in Europe, placing the project among the company’s highest global priorities.

They commended the country’s regulatory framework and investment environment, adding that the company is considering project acquisitions. Upon completion, the portfolio in Serbia could reach 800 MW of installed renewables capacity, SANY Renewable Energy underscored.

The company said it reaffirmed its long-term commitment to supporting Serbia’s energy transition, strengthening renewable energy development and contributing to regional energy security and sustainable economic growth.
